Hepatitis B; The Available Treatments options
Hepatitis B is an infectious disease of the liver. Which cause scarring or organs, the liver may fail to work and leads to liver cancer.
This is a fatal disease and epidemic as well. the exposure to blood causes, open sores, and body fluid transfusion cause of the spread of the virus.
When adult come in contact with Hep B virus that body system drains it out the toxin until it is untraceable. And the body can fight itself but those who get an infection during the birth process have difficult to deal with hepatitis B. Hepatitis B has acute and chronic stages. If the body is unable to drain and fight the symptoms the disease will enter into a chronic state.
The symptom includes fever, light colour poop, jaundice, stomach aches, fever for many months, loss of appetite, vomiting and nausea.
If someone observes the above symptoms consult the doctor as early treatment is better and it can refrain further damage.
The treatment of hepatitis B after infection;
When the person is exposed to the virus call the doctor for a vaccination shot. The injection of Immunoglobulin which is antibody within 12 hours of exposure can prevent hepatitis B. because this treatment provides short term relief. The patient can get hepatitis B vaccination as same time in case he fails to receive that.
Treatment for Acute Hepatitis B;
If the infection is short-lived to determine by the doctor, with the passage of time body will develop antibodies that will fight back the infection. Taking extra care of health by taking good diet, proper rest and alleviating fluid intake helps a lot. In cases of complication like dehydration and related symptoms, the doctor prescribes hospitalization.
Treatment for chronic hepatitis B;
If the patient is unable to fight the viral infection in the acute phase to fail to get proper diagnosis treatment the illness stays and leads to the chronic phase.
The treatment helps to reduce liver scarring and damage. It also prevents the transfusion of infection to other people.
The treatments are in two general categories;
Immune Drug Modulator;
These are interferon category drugs which help the liver and body to boost up the immune system. Which helps the body to get rid of the hepatitis B virus.
The Interferon Alfa-2b is the synthetic version of a certain substance which is specifically produced by the human body for fighting infections. Interferon alfa-2b is mainly used for treating hepatitis B in young people who want short term therapeutic intervention or for women who are planning pregnancy.
These drugs are administering on principle of shot same as insulin shots. The course for the drugs is 6 months to 1 year.
The antiviral drugs stop the reproduction and multiplication of the virus in the blood. Which result in improve the immune system as well as reduce inflammation which is the primary cause of liver damage. These drugs are available in pill and its course of action is one year.
Different antiviral medications are known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). These medications include lamivudine, adefovir, telvudine, entecavir, and telbivudine.
Liver transplant is an option if the liver shrinks and hard and fails to work its function properly. The surgeons remove the damaged liver and replace it with a healthy one. Liver comes from donors in some cases they donate some part of healthy liver cells to transplant. In other cases, the donation came from the people who donated their body organs after death.
In case of infection, the patient can prevent transfusion in family members and social contact. Like having to save sex with the partner along with regular screening for HCV virus. the other important step for prevention is by isolating the personal care item with other like syringes, razor, blade, toothbrush and nails cutter.
