Erik Benjamin Jones is an American professional stock car racer born on 30 May 1996 in Bryon Michigan. He is the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion.
Erik Jones Career Details
John began his racing career at the age of seven in quarter-midget racing. He began stock car racing at the age of 13 and started competing in the ASA Late Model Series in 2010 where he became the youngest ever winner of the Oktoberfest race at Lacrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
In 2011, he won the series championship CRA All Star Tour in his rookie year and was also the winner of that year’s Governor’s Cup 200 late model race. In 2012, he moved to ARCA Racing Series for the 2021 season, becoming the first ever driver to compete in the series at the age of merely 15. In 2013, Erik Jones became the first 16-year-old to compete in NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race. He then got his first win in the Truck series at Phoenix in his fifth start. He was named as the winner of 2013 Snowball Derby. Jones also added another trophy to his collection by winning Winchester 400 in October.
In 2014 January it was announced that jones would return back to KBM in the truck series. On September 27, Jones won Las Vegas Motor Speedway for his first longer track win. John won the 2015 NASCAR Truck series championship driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Jones also picked up win in NASCAR Xfinity Series at Texas and Chicagoland. He made his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series debut at Kenas Speedway subbing for Kyle Busch. Jones compete full time in the Xfinity series with Joe Gibbs Racing scoring for wins in 2016. After spending a year at FRR, Jones returned to Joe Gibbs racing. In 2018, Jones got his first career cup Series win at the 2018 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway after going into overtime second with Truex Jr. Jones finished the season 15th in points.
In 2019, Jones scored his second career cup series win at Darlington securing him in the 2019 Playoffs. After 4 days, he confirmed his contract with JGR to drive No.20 in 2020. He started off his 2020 by winning the Busch Clash despite being in 3 accidents towards the end of the race. On October 2020, Jones was confirmed to drive the Richard Petty Motorsports No.43 entry in 2021. In his career, he raced in 51 NASCAR cup series.
