Fiona Hills was Research Associate Strengthening Democratic Institutions Project at John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, from the year 1991 to 1993. Subsequently, she served as Resident Tutor, History, and Post-Soviet Studies at Harvard. Her tenure as a resident tutor was from July 1992 to June 1998. A year later from her folding as a tutor, she worked as Assistant to International Office at Durham County Council in Durham, England, for one year. She joined the Trump administration in 2017 as a Russian advisor for which she took a leave of absence from the Brookings Institution.
Fiona is currently a former Senior Fellow of Foreign Policy – Center on the United States & Europe at The Brookings. Fiona was born in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. She was born to a working-class family in northern England and her parents, Alfred Hill and June Murray, were both from non-political backgrounds. Fiona’s father, Alfred Hill, was a coal miner and her mother, June Murray, was a midwife. Fiona was born in England, but she later traveled to the United States to pursue her education and later became a citizen of the country. Fiona received her American citizenship in 2002.
