The Mississippi native concluded the year with 2,140 yards passing and 16 touchdowns for the Pirates.The 2018 season concluded with Minshew leading the FBS in pass completions (433), pass attempts (613), passing yards per game (367.6), he came second in passing yards (4,477) and finished in the top five in touchdowns (38).

During Washington State’s Alamo Bowl win over Iowa State, he matched a record previously held by Jared Goff. He claimed the Pac-12 single season record for most passing yards.

Minshew received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s top senior- or fourth-year quarterback. He was named 2018 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, an honor previously bestowed upon several players. Rueben Mayes in 1984 and 1985, Steve Broussard in 1989, Drew Bledsoe in 1992, Ryan Leaf in 1997, and Jason Gesser in 2002. These were the only Washington State players to have won the award since its inception in 1975. Minshew deserved the honor through his hard work and he joined the legends.

Another achievement in his career was finishing fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy. This gave him the benefit of becoming the ninth player in the history of Washington State to be placed in the top 10 for the award, and the highest WSU finisher second only to Ryan Leaf, who had been third in the Heisman voting in 1997.
