David Drew Pinsky (age: 61) commonly known as Dr. Drew, is an American media personality, internal disease specialist and addiction medicine specialist. He hosted the radio talk show called Loveline from its creation in 1984 to its conclusion in 2016. Loveline was also a nationally syndicated radio show. He has also served as a staff member at the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, California and Huntington Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Pasadena, California on 4th September 1958. His father, Morton Pinsky was a physician whose parents were Ukrainian migrants. His mother, Helene Stanton was a singer and actress who came from Philadelphia. He also has a younger sister named Dana who is now a paralegal. He was a Biology Major at Amherst College which he attended in 1980 and earned his MD at the University of Southern California School of Medicine graduating in 1984.

In 1984 while still a medical student, Pinsky started appearing in “Ask a Surgeon”, a segment on a Sunday night show on KROOQ-FM, a small local radio station. Soon afterwards he started co-hosting the show which was combined another show “Loveline”. The show went national in 1995 and its television version was launched in MTV the following year.
He has since then hosted several radio shows like Dr. Drew Live which began on November 2007 on KGIL in Los Angeles and Dr. Drew Midday Live with Mike Catherwood on KABC in Los Angeles on January 2015.
He first appeared in television as a contestant in Wheel of Fortune in 1984 and also served as a health and human relations expert in the first season of US TV series in 2000.
In 2008, Pinsky starred in a reality tv show which involved celebrities in drug rehabilitation centre called Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The show was filmed at Pasadena Recovery Center, with Pinsky serving as the resident medical expert. The series premiered on 10th January 2008 on VH1 and ran for six seasons, finally ending in 2013. This made Pinsky a household name in America.
He also starred in a spinoff show in 2009 called Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew which depicted celebrities being treated for sexual addiction instead of drug abuse like the original. This only ran for one season on VH1.
He has also made several appearances in several TV series and films.
In 2011, he hosted his own show called Dr. Drew on Call on HLN which focussed on news involving health and addiction topics. It ran for 5 years till 2016.
Pinsky was also co-founder of an Internet-based community and advice site for teenagers called DrDrew.com with Curtis Giesen which was found in 1999. Among their early backers was Garage.com
Dr Drew.com soon ran out of funding, and the company was sold to Sherwood Partners Inc., a corporate restructuring firm, which sold the remnants to DrKoop.com in November 2000. Pinsky re-acquired the site circa 2013 and began using it for general information about his books, radio and TV shows, as well as hosting his independent podcast, The Dr. Drew Podcast.
Pinsky published one book in 2003 and contributed to another book in 2004. The first one called Cracked: Putting Broken Lives Together Again, recounts his unforgettable experiences as the medical director of the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at the Las Encinas Hospital drug rehabilitation clinic in Pasadena, California and the second one called when Painkillers Become Dangerous: What Everyone Needs to Know About OxyContin and Other Prescription Drugs contained large contribution by Pinksy.

During the early months of the year leading up to March, Drew made several statements concerning the COVID-19 outbreak where he downplayed the seriousness of the pandemic and going as far saying it was not as bad as the flu and suggested that it was a “press-induced panic”. DroopsDr posted a 5-minute long video compiling the statements on Youtube but was temporarily taken down “due to a copyright claim by Drew Pinsky Inc.” The video was later re-instated after several attorneys and many others defended DroopsD and his views.
Drew later apologized and was vocal to people about the need to follow the advice of Anthony Fauci.
