Joel Aaron Schiffman was born on March 21, 1958 (age 62, Zodiac sign Aries) in Colorado. Little information is known about his childhood or early life, save for that he has at least one sister, Beth Schiffman, and that he went to the University of California where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He also attended to University of Pennsylvania, he got a graduation degree from the university’s Wharton School and became a certified investment management analyst.

Even before he acquired his certification, he had climbed in the ranks of investment banking company Kidder Peabody to become senior vice president. Later on, he returned to Colorado to serve as the consulting group director of Smith Barney in Denver. Spending nine years there, he then had a time at Trail Ridge Capital as principal director of marketing.

In 2005, he went to Los Angeles where he was senior VP of business development and client services at Reed, Conner & Birdwell. Through his positions in different companies, he’s built himself quite an impressive portfolio as a finance executive, with the highest point of his career being his three-year period as VP at Janus Henderson in New York.

When New York’s Schroder Investment Management rearranged and extended, they brought Joel on board as Head of the U.S. Defined Contribution and Insurance Sales. He has been with Schroder since January 2019.

He’s the Vice President and Director of Financial Institutions at Janus Capital Group and currently also serves as a senior relationship manager of New York City’s based Columbia Management’s National Accounts.

Joel has a daughter from a previous relationship, Kyle Schiffman, who is now 23 years old and is presently in San Jose, California, studying at the Santa Clara University School of Law.

He’s currently engaged to popular television host and news anchor Hoda Kotb. The two met at a Wall Street event when Hoda was signing autographs and Joel approached her. Afterwards, they started communicating via email and became closer.
Even though they were dating since 2013, their affair didn’t became public until January 20, 2015 when it was announced in The Daily Mail with pictures of the two of them together. However, even before these were leaked Hoda had a liking for sharing anecdotes about her current significant, but only referring to him as “Boots”. A year later, they moved in together to a new, comfy apartment.

Hoda went through a hard battle with breast cancer that she has since overcome, but it has left her unable to conceive children. For this reason, she and Joel decided to adopt a daughter on 2017 who they named Haley Joy Kotb (Joy for what her parents felt for her arrival), who was born on Valentine’s Day that same year. Joel name was missing from the domestic adoption application documents but Hoda explained the baby girl will call him “dad”.

On April 2019, the couple adopted another baby girl called Hope Catherine Kotb. A few months later, on November 25, Hoda announced Joel had proposed to her during a dinner at a beach on their recent Mexican vacation.

As for Hoda’s relationship with Joel’s eldest daughter, Kyle is fully supportive of her father’s engagement to Hoda and has referred to Hoda as “awesome” in the past.
