Lena Dunham is an American actress, writer, director, and producer known for creating the HBO television series Girls (2012–17) for which she received several Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe Awards.

Lena Dunham was born on May 13, 1986 in New York, New York. She began writing and acting while schooling in Brooklyn as a teenager. She briefly attended New School University before going to Oberlin College in Ohio to pursue creative writing.

She was executive producer and director of the pilot episode of HBO’s Industry(2020). She is executive producer of HBO Max’s Genera+ion (2021).
Dunham has used her background in creative writing in her publishing career. She released her memoir, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s “Learned” in 2014. In 2016, she started Lenny, an imprint of the publishing company Random House that features selected works in fiction and nonfiction. Together with her Camping co-creator, Jenni Konner, they launched Lenny Letter, a biweekly email newsletter about culture and politics which closed down three years later. in 2018.
