Fredricka Whitfield born on May 31, 1965 is an American journalist and news anchor known from the weekend edition of CNN Newsroom filmed inside CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Whitfield is the daughter of American middle-distance runner and Olympian Mal Whitfield, and mother Nola Whitfield.

In the following years she moved to Washington where she landed a job at NewsChannel 8 through the ABC partnership and worked there until 1995 when she joined NBC News, the news division of the NBC Network, but during this time until her departure in 2001 she appeared on many other shows including The Today Show and Dateline NBC. In 2002 she joined CNN where she was the first news anchor to announce the death of former US president Ronald Reagan.
