Ainsley was born Julia Lynn Edwards, on September 23, 1985, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her father is Dr. George Sadler Edwards, Jr. She has two siblings, a sister and a brother; Susan Edwards Lewis and George Sadler Edwards III. From 2013 to 2017, she was a criminal justice respondent at Thompson Reuters, a leading corporate brand and a multinational media conglomerate in Canada. Her roles included dealing with counterterrorism issues, immigration, and matters of criminal justice reform as instituted by the Reuters’ Washington Bureau.

Owing to her exceptional performance, Julia Ainsley was also a White House correspondent in 2015. Her roles included covering the White House and the President of the United States. During this time, she spent a lot of time on the road with the press accompanying President Barack Obama.

Julia Ainsley is married to Newman Carraway Ainsley from whom she got her last name. The couple took their marriage vows on October 29, 2016, at the Episcopal Christ Church Georgetown. The couple had got engaged in March 2016.

Their wedding reception was held near the White House, and a band from North Carolina was hired to bring a Southern note entertaining the guests.

At one point on her morning show at NBC, Julia is said to have got morning sickness in front of the camera and had to rush behind the camera.
