Mike Chinoy is an author, journalist and a Fellow at the U.S.-China Institute at the University of Southern. He has a B.A. in Chinese Studies from Yale University and M.S. In Journalism from Columbia University.

He began his journalism career at C.B.S. News and N.B.C. News in Hong Kong.
In 1983, he joined CNN as an Asian correspondent, where he spent 24 years. He also worked as Bureau Chief in Beijing and Hong Kong.

In 1989, Mike Chinoy also covered the Tiananmen Square demonstrations. Students led this demo in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. They were addressing the inflation of prices of goods. In 1998, He also covered the story of President Suharto and how he fell. The president had ruled for three decades. Suharto resigned a lot of economic and political struggles he experienced during that time which took upto twelve months. There were demonstrations by citizens and students countrywide.
This saw his vice president take the post and became the President.
He also taught in U.S.C. Annenberg School of Communication.
In 1994, He was the only journalist in history to accompany former U.S. President Jimmy Carter on the trip to Pyongyang.
He created the Assignment China documentary film series, which talks about the life and history of American Correspondents in China.
Mr. Chinoy has written two books: People Power and the Television Revolution, which recorded one of the highest sales on Kindle.
He is also remembered for visiting North Korea nineteen times the highest in history of any correspondent.
He also ran the School’s Hong Kong summer program, U.S.C. Annenberg School of Communication from 2007-2009.
During his stint in Asia, he interviewed some prominent people in Asian countries, including Jiang Zemin, Kim Il Sung, Tung Chee-Hwa, Corazon Aquino, Benazir Bhutto, Colin Powell, Kim Dae-Jung, Ma Ying-jeou.
