She was born on 6th June 1972 in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Bonner graduated from North Eastern University with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1994. She was the first female to be named ‘lead’ sports anchor in a primary television market. She has a son named Matthew.
After graduating from North Eastern University with a bachelors in English Bonner went to study law. While in her junior year, she did some background work for Channel 5, on a whim, as she was a sports fanatic. But it was her filling in for a sports anchor in West Virginia that got her noticed by a TV exec who offered her sports anchor job. She continued with her journalism career since.

Her career began with broadcasting as a news producer in WCHS TV. She landed this first job at WCHS-TV after sending 200 VHS audition tapes all over the country. She was also a reporter for several networks across places Manchester, New Hampshire and Maine. She worked with WVII-TV from 1995 to 1997. In 1997 she joined as a sport anchor in KRIV in Houston and worked there till 1999. In 1999 Bonner moved to the KCOP TV in Los Angeles and worked until 2002. She then moved to Fox Sports in 2002 and worked as a sports anchor until 2003. In 2003 she moved to CNN in Atlanta and worked until 2005 with CNN. In March of 2005 she moved to ESPN as a news anchor who also anchored ESPN’s sports news show known as SportsCenter. She left ESPN in 2012 after 7 years.
Michelle served as president of West Hartford MOMS Club International Chapter for two years from August 2012 and 2014.
Bonner then ran her own public relations company called the Bonner Consulting Group, based in Connecticut.
She currently is the director of marketing at Mandell Jewish Community Center of Greater Hartford and has been with the center since October 2017. Bonner also freelances as a sportswriter occasionally since 2017 and is an adjunct professor at the University of Hartford.
In 2000, she earned an Emmy award for “Best Newscast”. Bonner won the Edward R. Murrow Award of Excellence in Journalism in 2001for a feature story on Marlin Briscoe, the first black starting quarterback in the NFL. That same year, she received the Associated Press Award and Golden Mike for “Best Sportscast”.
She has also won an Emmy Award for Best Newscast, and three additional Emmy nominations. She has interviewed many famous sporting personalities including Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Johnson.
Her income as a marketing director is upwards of a $100,000 USD. She is a huge Bostons fan and describes herself as a goalie mom.
