Steve Owens, was a professional All-American footballer, born on the 9th of December (Sagittarius) 194I. He was born and bred in the small town of Gore, Oklahoma. His football career started in a small town in Miami, Florida where he signed up with Pop Warner football at 22 years old. He is a former football player, a running back in the National Football League (NFL).

Steve played football at the college level for the University of Oklahoma which is where he finalized his tertiary education and also achieved the Heisman trophy and gained an All-American. He became a power back and won major defenses from 1967 all the way through to 1969, setting a record of four conferences of the day. Owens carried all the major load for the Sooner offense. He left a mark on the Oklahoma University record book and he is his university’s all-time football scorer with a record of 57 touchdowns throughout his college football career, fifty five games (55), and career (958). He ended his very successful career with 4,041 yards on the ground making it Oklahoma University’s third most yard throughout the school history. He was also a member of a fraternity in OU, Kappa Sigma fraternity.
In 1991, Steven got inputted into the Miami Wardogs Hall of Fame and there is also a sculpture of him by the Wardogs football field. Owens served as an Athletic Director for the Oklahoma Sooners which was his alma mater, from August 1996 till March 1998. He was the University’s Athletic Director for nineteen months (One year seven months) before he retired in March 1998, and eight years later, in 2006, a statue honoring Steve Owens was unveiled at the Memorial stadium celebrating his 1969 award. He went on to join in the establishment of two public school foundations. It was a way of him giving back to his alma mater and community after years of benefitting from it.
Steve Owens later established an insurance-investment called Steve Owens Associates and Steve Owens Insurance Group after his football career dwindled out. He returned to Norman, Oklahoma where started these own companies which are now known as a multimillion dollars businesses.
