It is also called polycythemia which in most cases results to hemoglobin or hematocrit. Also it is divided into two categories that are secondary and primary. When the elevated red blood cells are due to the inherited problem in their production ten it is known to be primary polycythemia. When the red blood cells count is considered to happen due to other conditions or underlying factors ten it is called secondary polycythemia.
Factors that results to the high red blood cells count
When someone smoke it deprives the oxygen from bone marrow thus it thinks that there is the need to increase its production of the red blood cells which carries the oxygen.
Tumors or cysts
In the brain, liver or kidney when there is cysts or tumor there is an increase of a hormone called erythropoietin which is known to increase the production of RBCS. Erythropoietin injections are taken by the athletes sometimes so as to increase their performance that causes an increase of the red blood cell .Some symptoms that it can cause include dizziness, fatigue, headache and visual disturbance.
In this condition it happens to the bone marrow where it causes an increase of production of the red blood cells. The blood becomes thick, more easily and cloths and its symptoms are not noticed for many years. Some of the symptoms that it can cause includes; shortness of breathing,weakness,light-headedness,bleeding gums, fatigues, enlargement of the spleen and liver ,night sweats and also itching
In some cases secondary polycythemia can be caused as a result of reduced oxygen. The body of an individual recompenses for impaired heart functioning and lungs that cause an increase of the red blood cells count. As its result one can suffer from heart failure, COPD, smoking, high attitude and lung fibrosis.
Reduced Fluid Volume
It can cause reduction in plasma, high red blood cells count and also secondary polycythemia can be caused by the fluid in the blood. Some of its effects include; burn, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, and increase in urination.
