General Guidelines

Our brand maintains a commitment to high-quality content, which means we expect all content creators and collaborators to adhere to thorough fact-checking and self-proofreading processes. A helpful tip: always review your draft thoroughly before submitting.

Bias & Conflict of Interest

  • We encourage unbiased, balanced content creation.
  • Do not write about any topic, industry, or institution with which you have a financial interest.
  • Never accept compensation or benefits in exchange for coverage.

Ethical Journalism

  • Always disclose your identity and intentions when collecting information for your articles.
  • Maintain neutrality and ensure your personal views do not influence the way you research or report.
  • Your articles should present information with accuracy, clear context, and analysis, avoiding unsupported speculation.
  • Do not write content with half-truths, superficial explanations, or implied meanings that are not backed by clear evidence.
  • If we accuse any individual or organization of wrongdoing, always allow them the opportunity to comment before publishing. We aim to offer fair reporting with transparency.
  • Use respectful language when discussing sensitive topics such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability—only mention these when relevant to the story.
  • If covering legal proceedings, present all sides fairly, and be clear about allegations, particularly when someone has not yet been convicted.

Sensitive Topics: Suicide, Mass Shootings, and Death

  • Do not cover sensitive events like suicide, mass shootings, or death without official confirmation.
  • When covering suicides, do so respectfully and avoid speculating on reasons or methods. Always say “died by suicide” and provide resources for those in need.
  • Refrain from covering graphic details of death or suicide unless the family or authorities have made it public.
  • For sensitive news, credit only verified sources and ensure you have reliable, official confirmation before reporting.

Accuracy & Trustworthiness

  • Always fact-check your work to ensure its accuracy.
  • Verify all statistics, timelines, names, and sources before publishing.
  • Avoid making unverifiable claims or using superlatives without supporting evidence.
  • Our articles must be factual and precise to maintain credibility.

Corrections & Rejections

  • If your draft is rejected or if errors are pointed out, approach the situation with an open mind, make corrections, and resubmit.
  • If errors are found after publishing, it’s your responsibility to address them. You must notify your editor and supervisor immediately.
  • If you disagree with editorial feedback, consult your supervisor and discuss the matter in a constructive way.
  • In cases of plagiarism or severe issues, we reserve the right to retract an article after discussing it with the writer.

Aggregation and Sourcing

  • Always attribute quotes and references to the original sources.
  • Before using anonymous sources, assess whether the information is truly essential and trustworthy.
  • Ensure the sources you reference are credible and avoid using unreliable platforms.

Plagiarism Policy

  • Plagiarism, in any form, is strictly prohibited and may result in termination.
  • Do not copy or recycle content from other publications or your own work without proper attribution.
  • All drafts must be original, with clear distinctions from other sources.

Plagiarism is a fireable offense—it is treated with zero tolerance.

Author’s Social Media

  • Maintain professionalism across all personal social media platforms. Your public profiles should reflect the impartiality of our brand.
  • Be respectful and avoid engaging in arguments that could reflect poorly on your role as a journalist for our brand.
  • Ensure that your online conduct is consistent with the ethical guidelines of our brand.
