Joe Jackson Gibbs is an American citizen. He is a former professional football coach and a race car team owner. In football, he was the coach of the team Washington Redskins (1981-1992, 2004-2007) that played in the national football league (NFL). He led the Redskins to eight playoff appearances, four NFC Championship titles, and three Super Bowl titles over 12 seasons. Joe is the only head coach who successfully won Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks.

Born on November 25, 1940, in Mocksville, North Carolina, now at the age of 79, he is still enthusiastic and has a very cheerful personality. His height is 1.68 meters and weighs 70 kg. He went to high school at Santa Fe (CA) school. During the year 1959, he graduated from that school, and there he was known to be the star quarterback. Then he attended Cerritos Junior College and later went to San Diego State University (SDSU) during 1964 and received a master’s degree in 1966.

Joe Gibbs began his career through a position in the role of an aggressive line coach in San Diego State below Coryell (from 1964 till 1966). He had continued there till 1968 and up to 1972 for Frank Broyles at Arkansas. After retiring from the game at the end of the 1992 season, he focusses on NASCAR, creating the team, Joe Gibbs Racing, which has since won five NASCAR Cup Series championships.

In 2004, Gibbs decided to rejoin the Redskins as head coach, training them until 2007, when he again retired following the season’s end. Gibbs was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996, as well as being named to the NFL 100 All-Time Team. Gibbs was also formally admitted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2020, which made him the only individual inducted into both sports’ halls of fame.

He started his coaching career in San Diego State Aztecs (1964–1966) as Offensive line coach, then he served in many teams as coaches in different formats like Florida State Seminoles (1967–1968) as offensive line coach, USC Trojans (1969–1970) as offensive line coach, Arkansas Razorbacks (1971–1972) as running backs coach, St., Louis Cardinals (1973–1977) as running backs coach, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1978) as offensive coordinator, San Diego Chargers (1979–1980) as offensive coordinator and Washington Redskins (1981–1992, 2004–2007) as a head coach.

As the career growth happened he has successfully gained name and fame like in Football: He gained his breakthrough as a coach in UPI NFL COY (NFC) (1982), 2 Pro Football Weekly COY (1982, 1983), 3 Sporting News COY (1982, 1983, 1991), 2 AP Coach of the Year (1982, 1983), 3 Super Bowl Champion (XVII, XXII, XXVI), NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team, Redskins Ring of Fame and NFL Hall of Fame (1996).

In the field of auto racing, he got many successes like 5 NASCAR Cup Series Champions (as the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing), 2 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champions (as the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing), 4 NASCAR Daytona 500 Champion (1993, 2016, 2019, and 2020) (as the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing) and NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2020.

He has a family and they live in Charlotte, North Carolina. His wife Patricia “Pat”, the former Patricia Escobar and their two sons also live there. Their two sons, J.D. Gibbs and Coy Gibbs, and eight grandchildren live together. J.D and his sweetheart, Melissa, have four sons: Jackson, Jason, Miller and Taylor. Coy and his wife Heather have three sons Ty, Case, Jet, and a daughter Elle.

Taylor, his grandson was treated with Leukemia in 2007 and alongside he had undergone severe surgeries and chemotherapy for his treatment. His son J.D died in 2019 after some neurological brain disease that was diagnosed in 2015.
