Paula Ann Hiers Deen popularly known as Paula Deen is a popular American celebrity chef. She is the owner of “The Lady and Sons” restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. Paula was born on 19 January, 1947.She was born to a middle class family. Her father’s name was Earl Wayne Hiers Sr. while her mother’s name was Corrie A Hiers.
Paula Deen Early Life
She lost her parents when she was 23. She also suffered from agoraphobia and panic attacks in her early 20’s. After this incident, she focused on cooking for her family under the training of her grandmother Irene Paul who taught her the hand-me down art of Southern cooking. This new interest of cooking turned out to be a good business idea for her.
She was baptized in her childhood and she grew up Baptist. In 2002, she started her own cooking show on The Food Show. The show Paula Home Cooking was one of the biggest hit cooking in the entertainment industry.

Apart from restaurant business, she is also an amazing television host and her cooking show Paula Deen’s Creek House with her sons James and Bobby Deen is very popular among the American females. After the huge success of her first cooking show, she also premiered town new shows Paula Party (2006) and Paula’s Best Dishes (2008) on Food Network.
Both the shows were hit and liked by the audiences and she became a Cooking Queen in the entertainment industry. However, in 2013 she became a subject of controversy when she was alleged of making derogatory comments African-American. This incident also ended her contract with the Food Network. Till now, Paula has 15 cookbooks to her credit.
Paula turned her cooking habit into a cooking career preparing pots of chicken and dumplings for customers based on their order. She was separated from her husband in 1989 and left Albany for Savannah with her sons. At that time, she was left with only $200 and she had to cater for herself, her brother and her brother with this amount only.
For livelihood she started working as a teller. She also became a real estate agent to meet the financial requirements of her family. Taking advantage of her cooking skills, she started preparing meals and sandwiches for delivery at customer’s home by her children.
In 1991, she opened a Lady Restaurant in the Best West on Savannah Southside on Abercorn. As the number of orders kept increasing day by day, she decided to hire more staffs for her restaurant to sustain the kitchen pressure and demand. After 5 years in 1996, she opened another restaurant The Lady & Sons in downtown Savannah, on West Congress Street. She manages the restaurants with her two children. e
On April 27, 2015, Paula opened Paula Deen’s family Kitchen in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. This new restaurant of her was based on the retail concept.Later on in 2018, she opened Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen in Myrtle Beach.
Paula Deen Interest On Writing Books
Paula Deen was a keen writer. She had published some amazing books on cooking. In 1997, her book named “The Lady & Sons Savannah Country Cooking” and the Volume 2 of the same book was very popular among the readers. These books were based on the cooking concept and included recipes of some traditional Southern dishes. Apart from these books, her other two books were co-authored by Martha Nesbit. In 2005, she also launched a magazine ‘Cooking with Paula Deen”.
Paula Deen Interest In Acting Career
Paula Deen was a brilliant actress. She started her acting career in 2005 in a movie ‘Elizabethtown’. She was casted with some big names of the film industry like Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst in this movie but despite their presence, audiences appreciated her acting in the film.
She has also guest starred on several television shows like Extreme Makeover:Home Edition, My Life on the D-List, Kathy Griffin and the Orphan Next Chapter. In 2011, she was invited as a guest judge on MasterChef and Top Chef. She has also hosted her own shows Paula’s Party (2006-2008) and paula’s Best Dishes (2008-2013)

Paula married twice in her life. Firstly, she married Jimmy Deen in 1965. Their marriage lasted for 14 years and they divorced in 1989. Then she married tugboat captain Micheal Groover in 2004. Even after her second marriage, she still uses the surname of her ex-husband. She is a mother of two sons Jamie and Bobby Deen.
