Ward’s parents separated when she was young. Ward was first raised in New York and then in London. She graduated from Yale University where she studied comparative literature. She began her journalism career in 2003 at Fox News where she worked as an overnight desk assistant. Ward experienced the ‘pervasive sexism’ said to be prevalent there.
